Frequently asked Questions

Question
When I check on laundry equipment I get asked "Do you have single or 3-phase electrical service?" What is the difference and how do I know if my business has 3-phase or single phase electrical?

Answer
Three-phase service is used where large quantities of power is needed. The benefit of having 3-phase electrical is that 3-phase laundry equipment is cheaper to buy, cheaper to run and the equipment will last longer.

To know for sure if you have 3-phase or not, have an electrician check your service. It is difficult to give a definition of the difference between single-phase and 3-phase. To help you understand the difference between single-phase and three-phase, think of one man driving a tent stake then compare him with three men driving a tent stake. Three men hitting, one after another, can deliver three times as many blows as one man working by himself. The same is true of 3-phase power as compared to single phase. Question
What are "Hard Mount" and "Soft Mount" washers, and what's the difference?

Answer
A "Hard Mount" washer is less expensive to buy than a "Soft Mount". "Hard Mount" washers must be bolted to a concrete floor to keep it from flying around the room when it goes into a spin cycle with a load of laundry.

A "Soft Mount" is more expensive because of a built in shock absorber system, so it doesn't need to be bolted to the floor. It also spins much faster so drying time is reduced significantly, and eliminates the need to use an extractor for items to be ironed.

Question
How do I know what size washer I need?

Answer (For this FAQ, (#) = U.S. pound or (#'s) = U.S. pounds)
  1. Estimate the number of pounds of laundry you need to do per day. If you are a hotel or Inn - figure 12-16 #'s of laundry per room per day at maximum occupancy. Example: 40 rooms x 12 #'s = 480 #'s of laundry per day.

  2. How many hours do you want to allocate for doing the days laundry? Example: one 10 hour day.

  3. Calculate number of #'s of laundry you need to do per hour. Example: 480 #'s divided by 10 hours = 48 #'s per hour. Since it takes about 1 hour to run 1 load, you would need 50 #'s of washer capacity.

  4. As a rule of thumb, a hotel with 50-60 rooms could probably get by with one 50 # washer. A hotel with 50 or 60 to 100 rooms would take two 50 # washers.

Question
If I need to wash 80 #'s to 100 #'s of laundry per hour should I buy a 90 # washer?

Answer
You could, but a better option might be to buy two 50 # washers. That way, if you have a problem with one washer - you are not out of business.

Question
If I need a 50 # washer is the matching dryer a 50 # dryer?

Answer
No, the matching dryer for a 50 # washer is a 75 # dryer. Washers are rated by "dry" weight while dryers are rated by "wet" weight.

Question
What is microfiber?

Answer
Microfiber is a man-made product that consists of two fibers, polyester and polymide. The polyester is the scrubbing and cleaning fiber, while the polymide is the absorbing and quick drying fiber. Each square inch in a microfiber towel contains approximately 90,000 microfibers.

Microfiber is a lint free, non-abrasive, and hypoallergenic product that allows you to clean without the use of chemicals. Unlike ordinary cotton towels that move, or push, the dirt and dust from one point to another, microfiber actually gets underneath the dirt and lifts it from the surface. It then stores the dirt particles in the towel, until it is washed. For this reason, chemicals are not needed. microfiber is very absorbent and can hold up to seven times its weight in moisture. Microfiber is safe on all surfaces. Microfiber can be used with a diluted disinfectant.

FOR BEST RESULTS: Microfiber towels are best when used slightly damp. For best results, spray mist the towel with tap water and wipe. No chemicals are needed. If it leaves streaks while cleaning, the towel is too damp or too dirty and needs to be washed. Microfiber is safe on most surfaces. For polishing and dusting, microfiber towels can be washed and dried in a regular washing machine. NEVER use bleach, NEVER use fabric softener.
